Traffic Improvements

According to the plan put forth by the developer, the following improvements may be made to address some of the anticipated traffic issues.  This information has been provided by the developer verbally, and in presentations, but is not final nor are there any requirements in place.  The final plans will depend upon the traffic study and government approvals at the Federal, State, Town levels.

Proposed Improvements:

  • I-93 Northbound exit ramp:
    • New traffic light at the end of the northbound exit ramp from I-93 at Dascomb Road
    • Expand ramp to include a new dedicated left-turn lane, giving the ramp three lanes total
  • I-93 Southbound exit ramp:
    • New “smart” traffic light at the end of the southbound exit ramp from I-93 S at Frontage Road

New Light between the current light at Frontage/Dascomb and East Street/Shawsheen at Smith Way

Widening Dascomb Road to 4 divided lanes between Shawsheen and the I-93 N exit

Adding Sidewalks on Dascomb and Frontage.  Full details TBD on how far and what sides of the roads

Turning Smith Way into an access point into the Development

Use of “smart signals” to manage traffic flow

OPEN Questions:

Crossing signals for pedestrians and bikers?

Separate bike lanes?

How far down Dascomb Road will the sidewalks go in both directions?

How far down Osgood Street will the sidewalks go?

What will the process be to take the land to provide for the sidewalks from the property owners?
